MONTAGE LOS CABOS AND OUR FIRST MEXICO EXPERIENCE
This was definitely one of those trips that you will remember for a long time and advice all your friends to go! We never been to Mexico before, but always wanted to visit. And as many of us, the only information we had about this beautiful country was sadly from the news or from some random guy who “know’s it all”. I saw the map and knew that Baja California is a peninsula and we can easily just drive there by car and see all the coastal small towns, test freshest seafood and have more experience. But after strong advices not to drive in any circumstances because something might have happen (oh… those couch potatoes!) we decided to flight to Cabo San Lucas directly and spend our weekend at our Montage Los Cabos hotel…
BAJA CALIFORNIA AND WELCOMING MEXICO
The road from airport to our Montage Los Cabos hotel took about 45 minutes and we saw beautiful tropical greenery and constant ongoing development throughout all the coastal line. I completely understand that Baja California is not a Mexico mainland, different people, different landscape, different traditions probably. But what I have learned and now know for sure is that Baja California is all about tourism!
Everything and everywhere is transforming to or is build purposely to serve this huge industry bringing progress to Mexico country. Bottom line I was disappointed that I did not drive here by car. So many attractions along the way, so many interesting local and native things to see and explore that you are simply missing when you choose a flight. To us, Baja California looked like a nice mix of Croatia, Spain and Egypt. Who traveled to Europe a lot will understand what Im trying to say here. Southern climate and almost Egypt style nature mixed with Spanish architecture look and amazing Croatian freeloads small towns spread along the coastal line. Such a beauty! One thing so sure, my next trip to this welcoming part of Mexico will be by car!
CABO SAN LUCAS AND GOURGEOUS MONTAGE LOS CABOS
Cabo San Lucas is located in the very bottom part of Baja peninsula and is a small but very beautiful town, one of the most developed and shop oriented as I was told. Because we were there only for a weekend we decided to skip the trip to Cabo Lucas this time and visit it the next time when will be driving by car. Anyway from what I’ve heard from locals the restaurant and recreation life there is outstanding and as proof of that, I personally saw multiple US license plates on premium brand cars driving all over the area.
Anyways, back to our apples. We were fortunate enough to spend our first time in Mexico in one of the best, if not THE best hotels of there, called Montage Los Cabos. Please don’t get we wrong, Im not the type of person who likes to oversaturate travel destination because of extra towel in your room. I saw many good places with great service and as a couple who have visited all European countries (except UK), 48 American States and all major Canadian Cities, we know stuff. Montage Los Cabos is a true gem, period!
Location is perfectly situated around small Santa Maria bay, that gives you fresh ocean breeze every morning and breathtaking views. Most of, if not all, the rooms positioned oceanfront, Montage Los Cabos has full cascade of heated pools and jacuzzis following your way to the beach. Beach is another gem of this story simply because it is AWESOME!!! Crystal clear water and nice yellowish sand creates unbeatable combo that any US East Coast place can only dream of.
And you know what, we were swimming all day long! Yes, you heard it correctly, water temperature was around 20-21 but after 11am sun did its job and you can easily enjoy being in water for hours! The only thing you have you be careful with is the sunburn. We didn’t. And now both look like two overripe oranges ready to be peeled ))). Our oceanfront room had spectacular views and unique luxury feel thanks to gazillion of small things like all natural wood furniture, rain shower under the open sky, amazingly comfy bed, skillfully wrapped in a one nice result – client satisfaction.
As you all guys know we both are big connoisseurs of fresh and local cuisine when we travel. Well, Montage Los Cabos got you covered here for sure! Two distinct restaurants called Mezcal, presenting a modern interpretation of famous Mexican Kitchen, and Marea, an open air beachfront restaurant, serving you freshest local fruits in the morning and best possible fresh local seafood in the evening (obviously there’s more, but that was all that we had).
First evening from our weekend we decided to go to Mezcal and tried most of recommended reimagined interpretations of ancestral culinary traditions. Skillfully paired with best selection of local and international wines, I bet every dinner experience in Mezcal is outstanding. The next day, brought us even more joy and flavor from the insanely skillful Chef Victor Valencia, whom we had an honor to meet personally, and his food creations. The catch of the day yellowfin tuna was worth millions!
The next day we spent fooling around at the beach, swimming, enjoying multiple water attractions like kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, and others. And how a good weekend can be without a true, deep relaxation? Montage Los Cabos Spa is a tru state-of-the-art facility with super wide range of wellness programs and knowledgeable personnel.
After an hour of full body massage and 15 minutes relaxing in steam sauna, it seemed we rediscovered Grail of Life. It was a memorable weekend for sure. But no matter the services and plush environment, the real value behind the Montage Los Cabos great atmosphere lies in its personnel. Honestly, every single person was so friendly, joyful and nice, that sometimes we both thought that we are at our friends guest house! Our thanks goes to all of you guys!
